mother recover

help for moms who feel like garbage

Recharge your new mom batteries, balance your postpartum hormones, and feel good in your body again.

is this really the new mom norm?

A sweaty, moody, what’ll-it-be-today blend of:

  • Hair loss (and clogged drains)

  • Foggy thinking and trouble word finding

  • Achy 90 year old joints

  • Missing libido

  • Mom burnout - aka putting everyone else’s needs first at the sacrifice of your own

  • Down to your bones exhaustion

  • 0-60 moodswings, anxiety, and depression

  • Night sweats and soaked sheets

  • Insomnia (aka postpartum torture)

  • Revolving door or viruses and infections (thanks, daycare)

Nope, not normal

These are all symptoms of a completely depleted body that isn’t getting the right nutrients to support this season of life.

And since postpartum lasts at least 2 years after birth - that’s a long time to feel like crap.

What’s really going on in your postpartum body

pregnancy

During pregnancy, your baby needs a ton of nutrients as they develop and grow and they “borrow” from your body. Yes, those prenatal supplements (and extra snacks) help your baby get what they need, but YOU are left depleted.

birth

No matter how you gave birth, your body just ran its hardest, most unpredictable marathon. Then they put a newborn baby on your chest and wake you up every 30 minutes to push on your stomach or check your incision.

Post-Delivery

Your hormones plummet to menopause levels after delivery. Your body scrambles to raise them back up (hello night sweats and baby blues)

Early postpartum

The foggy-sweaty-moody-garbage stage. Lots of diapers (for baby and you!). You probably expected that recovery would be hard, but not that postpartum would hit you like a cement truck.

the postpartum linger…

You think you should feel better but you don’t (and your doc says “you’re fine”). As babies become toddlers, you *might* start to feel human again, if you were able to get the right nutrients and support to help your body recover. But most of the time? Lingering fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and mood issues. AKA that new mom norm.

LET’S CHANGE COURSE

You don’t have to wait until your kids are in college to finally feel better. This season of life has specific nutrient needs to fuel your recovery, help your hormones play nice, and replenish your body so you can feel good again.

This is what we’re doing together in Mother Recover

Mother Recover will help you meet your body’s needs so you can have…

  • Deeper and more restorative sleep so you can feel more like a functioning human, less like a grumpy agitated zombie

  • Relief from hormone imbalance symptoms like night sweats, mood swings, PMS, irregular periods

  • Decreased anxiety and depression so you can feel like yourself again

  • More energy so you can get through the day without needing a nap, or fall asleep while laying down with your toddler

  • Fewer cravings for allllllll the snacks

  • Decreased hair loss - no more measuring your hairline

  • Mental clarity so you can have a conversation without losing your train of thought

  • Relief from chronic overwhelm and isolation because you’ll be with other moms who get it

  • Easier weight management and feeling comfortable in your mom bod

  • A resilient immune system, no more getting sick from every icky your little one brings home!

  • I had terrible postpartum insomnia and anxiety and wasn't ready to try medications. I'm happy to report that my sleep and anxiety have improved TREMENDOUSLY since implementing the program. I feel like a new woman!

    -Amy

  • Life. Changing. I felt significantly better almost immediately after making simple (but not obvious!) changes to my diet. My anxiety is so much easier to manage now, and my afternoon coffee and sugar cravings are almost gone.

    -Julia

  • I was feeling mentally foggy, exhausted, unable to sleep, and irritable. Once I adjusted my diet, I started to feel much more like myself. The resources and support in this program are great and really helped me. I wish I had found it sooner.

    -Molly

  • I've only made what I feel are minor changes in my diet and routine and have seen lots of improvement. My mental and physical well being have improved. I have more energy and I'm less cranky most days. It's made me more aware of taking care of myself so I can take care of others.

    -Rachel

  • I now think that the tremendous depletion, exhaustion, anxiety, depression, and numerous physical "unexplained" ailments that have plagued me over the past eight or so years could have all been addressed so much earlier and more easily had I learned all of this back then and known how to nourish myself before, during, and after my pregnancies.

    -Stefanie

  • I wish I had this information back when I had my first baby!

    -Elly

  • I learned I could make myself feel better if I could learn about my body and what it needed, and how to treat it. I would recommend this program to anyone - pregnant or postpartum.

    -Ashley

  • I have more energy, not as much indigestion or headaches!

    -Sydney

A Mother on a Mission

I believe that a thriving society needs healthy mothers

Hi. I’m Alison. Registered Dietitian, mom of two, and believer in women.

Throughout my first pregnancy, I couldn’t believe how much misinformation there was about a nourishing and supportive diet. I knew that pregnancy was the time to focus more, not less, on nutrition. When I left the hospital post-birth, first baby in arms, I was given zero guidelines on healing and replenishing my body.

Then came the night sweats. The exhaustion, brain fog, and 0-to-60 mood swings. I was in shock. Despite being an expert in nutrition and hormones, I didn’t know how to take care of my physical needs.

Postpartum health is rarely talked about in most traditional (or holistic) settings. So I put on my research helmet and taught myself how to take care of my unique postpartum body. Now I’m on a mission to bust the myth that women have to crawl through motherhood.

After working with hundreds of new moms one-on-one, I created Mother Recover so that I could teach busy mothers how to thrive.

I’m here to set the record straight

let’s bust some myths

myth:

Exhaustion is just a normal part of motherhood.

fact:

Extreme fatigue is never ok and is most often related to hormonal imbalances and nutrient deficiencies. Postpartum insomnia is common and treatable.

myth:

Anxiety, depression, moodiness and high stress are just facts of life in early motherhood and only helped by therapy. It's only related to postpartum if it happens in the first year.

fact:

Postpartum mood disorders are a perfect storm of hormone changes, nutrient deficiencies and environment and can show up years after delivery. Hell yes to therapy, but hormonal and supplement work needs to be a part of the plan.

myth:

Your hormones will eventually go back to normal.

fact:

After giving birth your hormones are in menopause and fighting to come back up. It's not just time, but what you do with that time that brings them back to balance. If you are in your late 30s or 40s, early perimenopause changes will make hormone balance even harder.

myth:

Healthy eating means lots of salads and cutting carbs to lose the babyweight.

fact:

Your nutrition needs change dramatically after baby and your hormones react super negatively to any restriction in calories or macronutrients.  Weight loss after baby requires a different approach.

Summary

IF YOU’VE HAD A BABY IN THE LAST 2(ISH) YEARS - YOUR HORMONES ARE A HOT MESS AND YOUR BABY STOLE YOUR NUTRIENTS

Let me show you how to get your postpartum hormones to chill TF out, and recharge your new mom batteries

 Frequently Asked Questions

I'm drowning in diapers. Will I have time for this?

Yes! This program was made for busy, exhausted mothers. The course modules are short (10-30 minutes each), the principles are simple, and the recipes are both easy and optional. You do not need to attend the group coaching live - just throw your question at me and I’ll answer them whether you are present in the zoom or not. Most importantly, with balanced hormones and a fueled body, you’ll have more energy to do life.

Are you currently enrolling new members?

Yes! Come sit with us.

I already eat healthy. Is this program for me?

Yes. Mother Recover is designed to help you feed your body in a way that is unique to postpartum, with a focus on nutrient replenishment, blood sugar balance, and hormone balance. This is not necessarily the same as a generally “healthy” or “clean” diet. If you’re experiencing any postpartum or new mom struggles, such as extreme fatigue, mood swings, depression, night sweats and hair loss, this course is for you.

How long will it take to start feeling better?

Everyone is different of course, and how quickly you can implement changes matters in the timeline. That said, I typically see changes in energy and anxiety within days to weeks, and hormone changes within weeks to months. Mood improvements or weight change are more variable.

I didn’t give birth to my kids but I still feel like garbaage - will this still apply to me?

Adoptive, surrogate and non-bio moms are welcome here. Some of the material is related to the physical act of pregnancy, birth and lactation but many principles are related to the stress, lack of sleep and universal motherhood experience of putting yourself last. This is for any human who mothers.

What’s your refund policy?

All Mother Recover purchases are non-refundable.

Will this help me lose extra weight?

My priority is to help you feel better. Although weight loss is not the focus of this program specifically, difficulty losing weight is sometimes a side effect of certain hormonal imbalances and nutrient deficiencies. Some moms find weight management easier once their bodies have what they need.

I’m a vegetarian or have food restrictions. Will I be able to follow the food plan?

Yes. My food and meal recommendations follow a formula where you can plug your favorite foods into each category. The meal plans and recipes are for ease and inspiration but you don’t need to follow the exact ingredients in order to be successful. For those with significant food restrictions, I’d recommend upgrading to the personalized plan that includes 1:1 sessions with me.

I’ve had anxiety since way before kids, but it’s gotten worse postpartum. Will changing my diet really help?

Mother Recover is way more than meal plans and diet changes. I’ll guide you through the step by step process to recover from birth and feel better in your body. This includes a walk through of various symptoms that are commonly experienced postpartum (like anxiety) – and their connection to food, hormones, and nutrient deficiencies. I’ll teach you how to leverage this knowledge to give your body what it needs through diet, supplements AND self-care. Many women love the Mother Recover course as a complement to their other mental healthcare strategies.
